Ben Arfa Stands Alone

Saturday’s encounter with Swansea has given Alan Pardew all sorts of headaches but there is one especially that could grow and grow in the coming months.

The manager must be thinking how on earth he can keep Hatem Ben Arfa happy when he is often fighting a lone battle to raise Newcastle United above mediocrity, or worse, this season.

In our man of the match poll after the Swansea match, a massive 73% of you made Ben Arfa the one decent thing from the ninety minutes. Davide Santon was rated next best, way back on only 6%

Players who are as outstanding as Hatem must be given every indication that they are at a club that has ambition.

Players such as Ben Arfa must have looked in dismay at the lack of investment that was undoubtedly needed to make sure last season wasn’t only going to be a blip in terms of NUFC raising itself up to where we all believe it could and should be.

Investing in other quality players will not only help to retain players like Ben Arfa, it will also mean he might have less than three or four players on him at all times if the opposition had one or two other players to worry about.
