World Domination Grows Ever Stronger
New research by the leading sport business research consultancy has found that the number of football fans globally is an estimated 2.08billion and of those, 70% (1.46billion) follow English football.
The research by sport+markt further goes on to claim that of those 1.46billion football fans worldwide, 615million are actual supporters of one of the Premier league’s twenty clubs.
With worldwide interest looking to be showing no signs of slowing down, increased interest in the USA and particularly China, with 64% of Chinese football fans following the English league closely.
The report estimates that the total cumulative in-home TV audience has shot up to 3.9billion from 2.9billion two years ago, when added to 777million out of home viewers it takes th total to 4.7billion.
Other interesting stats the report threw up were;
In the UK one third of Premier League fans are female.
The average Premier League fan in the USA and China is a ‘well-educated young male with medium to high income’.
In the 2011/12 season, 71 different countries had players appearing in the Premier League.
The average league attendance in the Premier League rose from 34,151 in 209/10 to 35,356 last season.
When you add up; match attendances up, worldwide interest up – plus the profile of that worldwide audience being largely young and affluent…
It all leads to only one conclusion, the money generated on behalf of Newcastle United and the rest of the Premier League will continue to go only one way…and it isn’t down.
