When the name St.James’ Park was taken from us, Derek Llambias claimed a new stadium sponsor could bring in up to £10m.

The actual figure for the naming rights that Wonga have signed up to, is now reported to be a deal which will pay Newcastle £1.5m a year.

The Daily Mail also report that the deal for stadium naming rights is completely separate to the shirt sponsorship deal

The St.James’ Park renaming contract has began with immediate effect and will last just over four and a half years.

While the shirt sponsorship deal will run for four years starting with the 2013/14 season and is believed to be worth between £6m and £8m per year.
