Transfer Story Needs Strangling At Birth

Halloween is only a few days away but already I feel more haunted by the ever increasing transfer ‘stories’ in advance of the January transfer window.

With Derek Llambias seemingly making it clear that we are only allowed eleven ‘purple’ (elite first team better paid players) players, we are not very likely to make a major signing in the window….unless one goes out, even then there would be no guarantees.

So any new signings to supplement the squad in the immediate future will have to have one essential ability and that is to come cheap.

After the very bizarre short-term signing of Shefki Kuqi I would rule nothing out and a rumour floating around today is along those lines.

In France, L’Equipe is speculating that Newcastle could be interested in signing Jeremie Aliadiere, this is the same player who was released by Middlesbrough in  2010 and struggled to find a club, eventually getting signed up last summer by Lorient in Ligue 1.

The striker is nearly 30 and is the proud owner of a similar number of goals (32) in first team football. A tenuous link is that he was on loan at West Ham back when Pardew was manager there.

If you see any headlines saying that we’ve signed a French striker, beware!
