Three Newcastle Players Up For Player Of The Year Award

The African Confederation of Football (CAF) have announced their preliminary list for the continent’s best football player of 2012 and Tiote, Ba and Cissa all make that list.

The CAF base the selection on performances for both club and national team.

The annual award will be officially announced on December 20th at a ceremony in the Ghanaian capital, Accra.

The winner of this award, which is annually bestowed by the African Confederation to the best player of the continent, will be officially announced on December 20 during a ceremony that will be held in the Ghanaian capital Accra.

The award for the best African player was previously known as the ‘African Golden Ball’ and was introduced by the French magazine ‘France Football’ in 1970, then in 1994 the CAF took over organising the award.

Great to be nominated but there are 31 (THIRTY ONE) other players on this preliminary list including Taarabt (QPR), Kone (Wigan), Mayuka (Southampton), Gervinho (Arsenal), Drogba (Shanghai), Mikel and Moses (Chelsea) and Yaya Toure.
