Playing Poker At Roker With A Joker Won’t Work
If you look at the dialogue of a local press interview from yesterday, you’ll see Pardew is continually pushing the same line of defence to the Geordie faithful, saying injuries have played a major part in our slow start to our season.
He’s quoted as saying…
“The derby games are electric games. I can’t wait for it. The games over there have so much electricity.” “I can’t really explain to people. I was talking to Tony Pulis yesterday and he was asking me what my next game was.”
“I said ‘trust me, you haven’t got a clue’.” “I am not looking for excuses but we have not really been able to pick the same team in too many games because of injuries.”
“We had a nice run last year because we were fortunate in terms of injuries, this year not so much.” “It would be nice to have a bigger hand to select from, it’s always nice to have a nice poker hand.”
I’m sorry but this doesn’t make any sense to me…it’s the first signs of a man under pressure and a man whose life-time gambling habit is now manifesting itself in the mumbo jumbo he comes out with to stop the natives from becoming restless.
The first clue is at the end of the first paragraph connecting with the start of the second paragraph…does that make any sense to you??? Should he simply have started the second paragraph by saying “trust me, I haven’t got a clue!” …now that I can relate to!
…and then finishing off by saying “it’s always nice to have a nice poker hand”!
That just about sums him up really…he/Ashley gambled in the summer by not strengthening the team and in using poker parlance the community cards did them no favours whatsoever. In the hand they played during the transfer window the flop turned out to be a flop (just like the transfer window), the turn card represented a turn for the worse (as key players got injured), and the river card has sold us (the fans) down the river because we’ve certainly got more points than we deserve and the underlining performances are poor.
Let’s face it lads…they’re takin’ the mick…we ain’t nearly as stupid as they think and we can all see the team simply isn’t gelling this year…there’s something amiss and it’s certainly not just down to unexpected injuries either, because we didn’t have Tiote, Ba and Cisse whilst they were away in Africa last year and we didn’t have Stevie Taylor either, but we certainly managed a lot better then than we are now.
What do you think the problem is? Why aren’t we firing on all cylinders this year? Has Cabaye been unsettled for some reason? Is Captain Colo the big miss???
