NUFC Summer Transfer Policy Now Transparent

Fraser Forster’s call-up to the England squad for the matches against San Marino and Poland, spotlights yet again how desperate Newcastle United’s transfer policy was in the summer.

I think getting rid of Best and Guthrie wasn’t a bad move but while Anita has come in as third choice midfielder I never dreamt that they would dump our third choice goal scorer and not bring in a replacement.

In goal I found it even more baffling when they let Fraser Forster go, simply because they could bring in a couple of million which Harper and Elliot wouldn’t have.

I think fans get far too complacent and because Krul has been outstanding people seem incapable of understanding that injuries do happen and you have to have the insurance/squad to cover that.

When Fraser’s departure has cropped up here before, some have said that it would have been impossible to keep both Forster and Krul, why?!!

The story goes that Forster wouldn’t have been happy on the bench.

I’m convinced that if Forster had been told he’d be number two, would play all Europa League and domestic cup matches and be given the chance to play to keep the shirt if Krul got injured – Fraser Forster would have been up for staying at least one year.

Instead we were left with a keeper (Harper) who the club tried to give away last season and one (Elliot) who they’d lost faith in and for that reason ended up reinstating Harper as number two.

Elliot has done ok in his minutes on the pitch this season while I’m convinced Krul (and Forster???) would have saved at least a couple of the ones Harper has let in.

You now have somebody good enough to be called up by England who we let go of for buttons while we scrape around to fill the Krul sized hole.

People talk about Tavernier, Vuckic, Sammy, Ferguson and others having potential.

Forster had shown he had more than just let’s get the prayer mats out kind of potential, he’d played enough matches at the likes of Norwich and Celtic to show he was well down the road to making it.

This England call-up is just another step up the ladder for Fraser making it to the very top and Newcastle United will be the losers.
