Newcastle’s Season In Their Hands…For Now

I’ve got no doubt that Alan Pardew will have been hammering the positives of the sunderland match into his players this week.

Even with ten men Newcastle were more than comfortable against a bog standard Premier League team who unfortunately (for the overall health of English football) exactly that, a typical limited Premier League team. I watched the first half of their match with Stoke yesterday on pub satellite and couldn’t believe how abysmal it was, from both teams.

Newcastle don’t have to be world beaters to repeat a league position not too far away from last season’s.

A record so far of only two defeats in eight isn’t exactly disastrous, especially when the defeats were against two of the teams who look nailed on to finish top three – Man.U. and Chelsea.

It is the four draws that have dragged the season down so far and I wouldn’t be surprised if Alan Pardew wasn’t also hammering into his players that home wins against West Brom. and West Ham, plus a point at Anfield, in our next three league matches would give the table a totally different look.

Teams like Arsenal who are currently fourth aren’t exactly playing like world beaters as defeat by Norwich, a poor home draw against the mackems and a lucky last gasp win against QPR testify to.

Pardew will be telling the likes of Cabaye, Ba, Coloccini, Krul and Ben Arfa to carry on last Sunday’s application and all round play, Newcastle are better than they have shown so far and today is time for Yohan and the boys to prove it.
