Mike Ashley’s Double Glazing Policy
One of the most annoying adverts on TV is that double glazing advert where the Neanderthal looking Yorkshireman wearing a big furry coat, like Conan the Barbarian, proceeds to knock over double glazing units whilst shouting, “You buy one – you get one free, I say you buy one – you get one free, I say you buy one – you get one free – Finance Available!”.

just wanna smack him every time I see him but that I guess is exactly what he wants…anyway, that’s not why I’m here, I’m here because the message of the advert seems to exactly mirror that of Ashley’s new transfer policy!
I listen to the messages being put out to the supporters through our new messiah Pards, with regards to the proposed (FFP)Financial Fair Play rules and how that impacts on our current and future transfer policy but I can’t help but think it’s all a load of rubbish really.
Here we are coming off the back of a 5th place finish and it seems Ashley has already said to himself ‘We overachieved last year, we’re not gonna spend any more money cos I don’t think we’ll improve on fifth no matter how much we spend, if anything we’ll finish lower than last year so why spend money going backwards’.
Hence the double glazing strategy – we bought one (Bigirimana) we got one free (Amalfitano), we bought one (Good) we let one go for free (Guthrie), we bought one (Anita) we got one free (Taylor back from injury!).
So there you have it, the Mike Ashley 2012 transfer policy – stolen from the most irritating TV advert selling double bastard glazing!
In light of our pathetic showing against Man United yesterday and our less than impressive start to the season, I sincerely hope the next transfer window shows more emphasis on the ‘buy one’ rather than the ‘get one free’.
I may be being a bit harsh here but what do you think?
