Krul Wins Points And Fans’ Vote

Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse’s backside might have produced the goals but not many fans left St.James’ Park on Sunday doubting that it was anybody but Tim Krul who had actually won the three points.

Excellent in his general play while those in front of him were all over the shop at times, the Dutch keeper made two world class saves in the first half to deny Romelu Lukaku as he defeated the striker twice in one on one situations, drawing comparisons with Shay Given at his very best.

Poor defending in the second half, again, meant that the West Brom striker eventually did beat Krul with a point blank header but when we asked the fans for their man of the match it was a walkover.

Tim Krul walked away with top spot and 47% of the fan vote, while Davide Santon was second with 16% and Ba (9%) and Ben Arfa (8%) the only thers to really trouble the scorers.

Very relieved to have the keeper back and also worth mentioning that Santon is in the top three nearly every match when we do our man of the match poll, where generally you wouldn’t expect defenders to regularly figure.

The Italian full-back has been outstanding this season and one of the very few who kept it together after half-time against West Brom.
