Attitude Is (Almost) Everything

Xisco at last had a moment in the sun (well, a damp miserable Tyneside evening) when he scored a hat-trick against Stoke City reserves on Monday night.

A strong United line-up had a comfortable night as they hit five without reply before a last gasp consolation goal at the end for the visitors.

The Spanish striker hit a half hour treble in front of just 221 stunned spectators and it would be little surprise to see Xisco make the bench sometime soon.

Newcastle’s line-up was Alnwick, Nicholson (Riley 31), Good, Abeid, Tavernier, Satka, Marveaux, Inman, Campbell, Xisco (Maddison), Amalfitano

Speaking to NUFC TV afterwards;

“I know I came to play with the first-team but I didn’t get the chance so I have to keep trying. If I have to play with the reserves for the moment I will play with the reserves and I will help the team to reach their targets.

I’m happy. I’m happy to score goals, that’s always a good feeling, and I’m also happy to help the team get a win. That’s the most important thing”.

On the occasions I have seen Xisco play, there seems nothing wrong with his attitude, unlike a certain other United squad playing making the news today.

We’ll probably never know how the Xisco came about and at such expense but that deal summed up Dennis Wise’s time at Newcastle United. The player might have done alright financially but coming to Newcastle has effectively put his career on hold for five years.
