Papiss Cisse almost gave Alan Pardew a massive problem last night with a bullet header against Ivory Coast from outside the box!

With no perfect outcome to Ivory Coast v Senegal, it is widely felt that losing Cheick Tiote for up to four or five weeks in January/February is preferable to Newcastle losing their entire forward line!

The first leg of the African Cup of Nations qualifier last night saw Senegal lead twice in the away tie, the second goal a brilliant Cisse header from over twenty yards out (see video below).

With Cheick Tiote absent through injury and Demba Ba on the bench, ironically only one of our players was actually involved , though happily the final outcome was a 4-2 win for Ivory Coast that makes them massive favourites to progress and keep Ba and Cisse on Tyneside after the new year.

What Papiss’ class goal also shows is that he clearly hasn’t lost his touch and like all great goalscorers, if Newcastle can create chances then Cisse will knock the goals in again this season.
