A classic tale in the new issue of The Mag, related by Thomas Joseph in his excellent ‘Boy about Town’ column;

A lad from work, originally from Malaysia, who has lived in Newcastle about 15 years and developed  a bit of a ‘Geordie twang’ told me a funny story that happened to him during the Olympics Football at St James’ Park.

He lives just off Pitt Street, near the ground, and was walking past SJP into town with his wife on the day of a Japan game.

All of a sudden he’s besieged by people attending the game wanting to have their photos taken with him.

A steward then approaches him and asks if he knows where he is going, to which he replies, “Aye, I only live at the top of Westgate Hill, man!”.
