As previously feared, Tim Krul will miss Monday’s trip to Everton with a number of other key players likely to be unavailable as well.

Speaking to the Evening Chronicle, Alan Pardew acknowledged;

“We have had problems and Colo is struggling. Krul is out for two or three games, in some respects he can take an enforced break”.

Fair play to Alan Pardew for trying to find a positive in all of this but we are going to need big performances from a number of players to fill the boots of some of our best players.

Whatever you think of Steve Harper, the club were more than happy for him to leave last season as he fell behind Rob Elliot. Stating the obvious, Steve Harper has not suddenly become a better goalkeeper than he was twelve months ago when he was out of favour, sadly Rob Elliot has not proved up to the job and with Forster allowed to leave we are back to the ever lasting Harper.

Simpson and Ryan Taylor are also definite non-starters for Goodison with Coloccini and Tiote massive doubts.

Unfortunately I don’t think we can hope on this occasion that Pardew is playing cat and mouse with the opposition in terms of tricking them as to which players will be fit.

They do say though that one player’s misfortune is another’s opportunity, the question is – will the stand-ins be up to it?
