The statistics from the Everton v Newcastle make interesting reading, especially for the Bitter Blues who are still moaning no doubt.

Undoubtedly Everton should have been out of sight in the first half but United clung on and ended up the better team in the second-half, such is football.

What came out of of the Everton match according to BBC Statistics though is the following;

Possession                    NUFC 50%     Everton 50%

Total Shots                   NUFC 11         Everton 17

Shots On Target           NUFC  7        Everton 10

Corners                          NUFC 3          Everton 3

Amazingly, Newcastle’s second half recovery meant they finished up equal in terms of possession overall and almost as many shots on targets, the same number of corners as well.

When you add in a backdrop of an Everton team who had won their last six at home (incl 1-0 v Manchester United) against a Newcastle team missing arguably their three best players in Coloccini, Krul and Tiote, plus a fourth automatic first team regular in Simpson, then I think it is fair to say it was clear moral victory for the away team.

    fellaini was onside, but offside was givin

    Two goals incorrectly not given.

    Whilst you would argue that Ben Arfa way away, had the goal been correctly given it wouldn’t have been an issue.

    Glad it only cost us two point. I doubt there are many teams who will have two good goals ruled out that will go on to get a draw against Newcastle this season.

    I see Pardew having another dig at Moyes and the money he has spend. He just can’t help himself can he.

      The refs decision is what counts we’ve had some poor decisions against us aswell! That’s football, jelavic hand balled when he scored last year, ??

        “Yes, it’s disappointing – we scored five goals against Newcastle, four good ones, and we only got awarded two of them. Wtf

  • geordie

    the “goal” was over the line but from a free kick incorrectly awarded. as alan parry liked to ram down our throats, justice was done.

    no such thing as a moral victory, simply a hard-earned, slightly lucky point. any neutral looking in would have concluded that everton should have won and whatever you might make of them, the stats, for what they are worth, back that up. absolutely delighted we got the point as we didn’t turn up first half!!

    There’e lies, dam lies and statistics. The only thing your article proves is that the BBC stats aren’t worth the paper they’re written on. Good point for us though and a good second half display.
