Demba Ba – ‘How Can’t I be Happy? I Play For NUFC’

The past week has been dominated by Demba Ba but the fans have shown their appreciation for the player where it matters; on the pitch.

Thanks to the thousands of you who voted in our man of the match poll after Monday night’s match at Goodison, Demba Ba’s second-half intervention saw him receive a massive 61% of your votes with James Perch, Hatem Ben Arfa and STeven Taylor trailing way behind on 11%, 10% and 8% respectively.

I know we don’t want to hear of any behind the scenes falling out but that is for the likes of Alan Pardew and Derek Llambias to sort out, as fans I think we should judge players on the only thing we know for sure and that is what we see on the pitch.

On that front, in only four Premier League matches, Demba Ba has scored three cracking goals and arguably won us 3 or 4 points of the 5 we have got so far.

What actually happens behind the scenes is open to question as we never have the full facts, though clearly Ba’s ‘people’/agents have been out of order. In terms of never having the full facts, everybody was under the impression that Demba’s buyout contract clause had run its course in the summer, only for Alan Pardew to make clear this week that the clause is still active.

I understand the manager and player have also had clear the air talks and in every club you will have occasional spats with players but it comes down to how these are handled and what the outcome is.

This week Alan Pardew has been keen to make everybody aware that he sees Ba’s people/agents as those most at fault and in terms of the outcome on the pitch, instead of sulking Demba raced off the bench to score a cracker only a few minutes later and added that massive late late equaliser.

We’ll leave the last word to the player himself who tweeted the following message yesterday in response to a fan asking him about the situation;

“I am happy where I am my friend. How can’t I be happy? I play for NUFC”
