Debuchy In, Cabaye Out

8 years ago

If you ever wanted a reason never to buy another newspaper again then this week has provided numerous examples.

In the summer all of our best players were leaving and ‘sources’ (HP, Heinz….) revealed that Newcastle were going to swoop for at the last count, around two hundred or so different players.

When the window slammed shut you heaved a sigh of relief but the fact that 99.9% of these ‘reports’ proved to be nonsense, it hasn’t put them off one bit.

It reminds me of a holiday with the lads a few years ago, came back in the middle of the night and starting drunkenly chopping up some melon, ended up all over the place and next morning it was like a horror film with an invasion of ants. No matter how many you drowned there just seemed to be even more of them by the minute.

So since the transfer window CLOSED and nobody can move for at least four months, it has already been revealed (yet again) to us that Santon, Cabaye, Tiote & Ben Arfa will all leave in January and Debuchy, Douglas, Yanga M’Biwa & Erik Pieters.

It feels like you’ve left some old paper from July lying around and picked it up thinking it is today’s…only to find out that it is!

Maybe the biggest irony is that two of the most reported stories this week have been that Yohan Cabaye will leave and then the next day we read Mathieu Debuchy will arrive.

With Yohan Cabaye clearly a major reason why we had/have any chance of getting the French full-back, the two stories can’t both be true…or of course it could all be nonsense.

As Dreamboat has himself said in response to the latest speculation;

“I’m very happy here, I’ve never thought any different, and I’m very happy to play for Newcastle. It has been difficult for me so far this season. I don’t want to make excuses but I’m getting back to full fitness.
