Breaking news today is that Alan Pardew has signed a new eight year deal taking him up to the end of the 2019/20 season.

Pardew’s backroom staff; Steve Stone, John Carver and Andy Woodman have also agreed deals up to the end of that season.

These follow Graham Carr signing a contract earlier, also taking him up to 2020.

Derek Llambias;

“If you look at clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal, Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger have shown that stability gives you the best platform to achieve success and that is the model we wish to emulate here”.

Exactly what a contract amounts to these days is open to question and of course there may be whatever clauses regarding pay-offs etc if everything goes pear-shaped.

What seems clear though is that the manager and his team are being rewarded for what they’ve done so far and I for one certainly wouldn’t disagree with the Manager Of The Year(!) and his men getting rewarded.
