They say the harder you work the luckier you get, looking at some stats from the Spurs match you can see the truth of it.

While great pieces of skill by Ben Arfa and Ba won the match, two other players once again showed their worth and without their contribution we probably wouldn’t have given the forwards their platform.

The official EA stats show that Newcastle outran Spurs by 58.94 miles to 57.14 miles in the opening game, with Cheick Tiote and Jonas Gutierrez continuing where they left off last season by covering most ground with 5.93 miles and 5.64 miles respectively.

Jonas Gutierrez is a player probably unique in the Premier League, he contributes so much in so many ways, if his end product was better….

While with Cheick Tiote we have a player who has been at the heart of just about every big win we’ve had in the last two seasons.

The memory of the Manchester United players just bouncing off him in that class 3-0 win will live me for a long time.

Let’s hope for more of the same at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.
