Looking at the statistics from the Chelsea v Newcastle match backs up Alan Pardew’s praise for the team’s second-half performance.

While Chelsea had 65% possession in the first half Newcastle clearly in the second half more than held their own.

What came out of of the Chelsea match according to BBC Statistics is the following;

Possession                    NUFC 44%     Chelsea 56%

Total Shots                   NUFC 11         Chelsea 11

Shots On Target           NUFC  5        Chelsea 6

Corners                          NUFC 3          Chelsea 2

Dives                              NUFC 0            Torres 3

I think the stats in terms of shots are interesting with Newcastle having the same number of shots and only one less on target. Come to think of it, apart from Torres’ brilliant finish on half-time I can’t really remember Tim Krul having to make many, if any, outstanding saves.
