Pardew Climbs Back Inside Ben Arfa’s Head

8 years ago

Possibly Alan Pardew’s greatest achievement last season was managing the Hatem Ben Arfa situation, unfortunately it looks like he will have it all to do this season as well.

A notoriously diffcult player to handle, Pardew showed great strength and patience which paved the way for some stunning contributions in the second part of last season.

Those performances catapulted Ben Arfa into the French squad, helped also by a tidal wave of support back in France.

That was pretty much the end of the positivity though, as Ben Arfa only started one game and ended up at a disciplinary hearing following their dismal exit. Ben Arfa may have escaped that with a warning but the appointment of his old adversary Didier Deschamps as Blanc’s replacement, will hardly have raised Hatem’s spirits.

Due to their Euros participation,Cabaye and Ben Arfa was given extra time off this Summer only to then miss the Algarve tournament due to attending his disciplinary. As it stands he hasn’t kicked a football for Newcastle this pre-season and the first match against Spurs is eleven days away – over to Alan Pardew (talking to the Evening Chronicle);

“He’s been very smiley still. These things can happen at international level. I don’t think Hatem was too impressed with the experience he had there.

Good – now show them how good you are with Newcastle”.

Clearly our manager knows once again that, rightly or wrongly, Ben Arfa is a player that most definitely has to be handled differently to your average player.

He may be high maintenance but when you get him in the mood, what a player!

Hopefully Pardew can once again work his magic and quickly get Ben Arfa into the form he showed earlier this year.

The manager has already said that the biggest thing missing this pre-season is ‘Imagination’, he could have easily replaced that with three little words – ‘Hatem Ben Arfa’.
