The defeat at Cardiff wasn’t great news but is dwarfed by the various injury worries ahead of the Spurs match with the manager now confirming Hatem Ben Arfa will be out through injury.

Alan Pardew;

“Ben Arfa has a slight knee problem, which I think definitely keeps him out of the first week”.

Not the end of the world but as we have seen so often in the past, a good start to the season can swiftly become a great one, while a bad start to the season…..

The manager has then outlined where other players’ carrying injuries are at;

Papiss Cisse – “Papiss has got a slight hamstring”.

Demba Ba – “Demba has a shin injury, which he’s carried for a week or so”.

Yohan Cabaye – “Yohan Cabaye is not right in terms of work he’s done. We are hoping to get him up to speed and get him involved on Saturday”.

Fabricio Coloccini – “Colo looked like he was struggling after 20 minutes (against Cardiff), which worries me. Colo didn’t want to come off being captain. I wasn’t sure if he was injured or not, so he might have played too long”.

Cheick Tiote – “Cheik has got a calf problem. We’ll have to see. I don’t think he’ll travel (to Moscow for an Ivory Coast friendly this midweek), by the way”.

Fingers crossed that they all look like minor knocks, which at worst will mean a match or two out for one or two, but anybody out there who thinks it is ideal to approach a season with a good first eleven and a group of willing squad players, had better think again.
