Newcastle Transfer Target Now Up For Sale

After the successful end to one marathon transfer chase, Newcastle could be on the verge of completing another.

Linked with FC Twente’s Brazilian/Dutch centre back Douglas (Franco Teixeira) for months, his club have now made him available after failing to reach agreement on a new contract, the defender only having one year left.

In an interview with Voetbal International, FC Twente Chairman, Jupp Munsterman

“If proper compensation is offered, in our view Douglas should leave because he could otherwise leave for free next year”.

Fulham are also rumoured to be interested but it would be disappointing if the big defender chose the Cottagers over life on Tyneside.

I know the argument may be that James Perch was better suited than Mike Williamson to try and contain Jermain Defoe but Williamson didn’t feature very much pre-season and doesn’t look to figure highly in Alan Pardew’s plans.

Perch did OK and has become a reliable and versatile fill-in across the back four (but NOT in midfield!) but as Alan Pardew himself said in May, in fact stated as fact, he would be bringing in a big dominant centre-back who would also help out on the goals front.
