If I had to put money on one player arriving at Newcastle in the remaining days of the transfer window I think FC Twente’s Douglas Franco Teixeira could well be the one.

Our man in Holland reports the following translation from the well-informed FC Twente Fan website;

“The transfer of Douglas to Fulham appears not to be happening.  Douglas doesn’t find the idea of going to Fulham (where former teammate Brian Ruiz is playing) particularly appetizing and is hoping that Newcastle will revive their interest, because he would definitely relish a move to Tyneside.  FC Twente have given him an ultimatum: he needs to tell them by Tuesday night at the latest if he is leaving, so they still have time to find a replacement.  They don’t want to find themselves in the situation of a last minute departure of a leading player, as happened last season with Brian Ruiz”.

With Peter Wisgerhof definitely staying at the Grolsch Veste, today might be the day for Newcastle to take a punt on uncovering  a rough diamond.

Alan Pardew stated categorically that he intended to bring in a commanding centre-back with the ability to score goals and Douglas fits the bill. As well as that he only has a year left on his contract, he now qualifies to play for Holland and so no problems with playing anywhere in Europe, comes from a league that doesn’t pay big wages and from a club that Newcastle have done business with previously.

Newcastle desperately need to extra quality into the mix and the Brazilian/Dutch defender fits the bill and at the right price.

    Having a Tuesday deadline doesn’t mean nothing at all. It won’t stop our lot running the clock down to try and get him as cheap as possible.

    I find it worrying that we could be left with Shola and Ben Arfa as our striking options for six weeks if Senegal qualify for the ACON.

    We should still be looking to bring in a striker, centre half and full back.

    I was under the impression that they had already signed Boyata on loan from Man City as a replacement…
