Welcome to the best week of the year…for the media.

Yes the last week of the summer transfer window is with us and if you thought it was bad in recent weeks and months, you haven’t seen nothing yet.

Whether any, or all, of our players are leaving this week, the headlines were always going to be the same regardless. Anything you read this week is pretty much meaningless unless you see the player grinning in his new strip.

When the press spun the wheel this weekend it landed on Arsenal supposedly after Tiote, or was it Cabaye, or hang on maybe both of them!

No doubt you’ll have seen other headlines elsewhere linking other Newcastle players to numerous clubs but taking the arsenal link as an example.

For there to be any basis to this it would mean Arsene Wenger turning his longstanding transfer policy on its head. He’s just sold a key player in Alex Song to Barca for £15m and do you really think he would pay Mike Ashley’s top dollar price of MORE than that figure on one of our midfielders?

Me neither, so that’s Arsenal off the worry list – just the rest to worry about!

I would guess the biggest realistic worries are Spurs with the Modric money burning a hole in their pocket (Mike Ashley would love that, knowing how much they’ve just raked in if they came after one of ours) and the usual suspects like Chelsea and Manchester City where money is pretty meaningless, unless they give any credibility to Financial Fair Play rules.
