Hatem Ben Arfa may have escaped with only a caution at Friday’s disciplinary hearing but he could have it all to do after Didier Descamps made his latest loaded statement.

The new French manager has had this to say in advance of naming his squad to play Uruguay in Le Havre on 15th August;

“Some of those who went to the Euros will not be there (against Uruguay). There will possibly be a few new faces.

France are a work in progress. We have to create a group again. There is a need for some fresh blood. People always want new and young players introduced.

We need experience as well, though. Players who are used to playing at the highest level. We’ll have to find the right balance.

I really want everyone to have the right attitude and behave properly. If anyone doesn’t do that, they’ll be condemning themselves, not me. Being picked or not picked is a form of sporting sanction”.

After having big problems with Descamps when both were at Marseilles, the manager’s words won’t exactly inspire confidence for Ben Arfa.

A very strange summer for the player and I can’t help thinking that from a Newcastle perspective, I wish Blanc had continued to ignore our enigmatic genius.
