European Dates Pile The Pressure On Newcastle

Alan Pardew and everybody else at Newcastle United were of course hoping that the Greek club Atromitos FC would be able to accommodate the first leg being played on Wednesday 22nd August to avoid the nightmare of kicking off less than 48 hours before the away match at Chelsea on the Saturday.

However, the club have just announced that the matches will go ahead as originally scheduled with the away leg kicking off 8pm (local time) on Thursday 23rd August and the second leg at home kicking off 8pm on Thursday 30th August.

No details have been made available as to the lengths Newcastle United did or didn’t go to for a change of date or flipping the matches, plus then subsequently no details of who put the block on it, if they had tried to make any change.

Not exactly what Alan Pardew needs on top of a rash of early injuries to his squad – Ben Arfa conifrmed as a non-starter against Spurs and Tiote, Coloccini, Ba and Cisse all picking up knocks/strains.
