Cheick Tiote – ‘I Don’t Do Friendlies’

Our Ivory Coast destroyer, Cheick Tiote, doesn’t mess about when it comes to doing his talking off the pitch as well.

Listening to various players talking pre-season there does seem to be an air of confidence and belief for the coming season but certainly no sign of complacency.

Cheick talking to the Evening Chronicle;

“We have grown in the last two seasons, and this time we hope to do bigger and better again.

We don’t look at the games as friendlies – you have got to still compete. The fans are still coming to the games and travelling to see us. Every game we play, we do everything to win for them.

Whenever I pull a shirt on, I play to win – every tackle, everything. Nobody plays to lose. When you play against any team, they should want to win too. It is normal”.

Watching him in the friendlies, Tiote does play every match as if it is his last and a record of 25 yellow cards in only 50 competitive starts for Newcastle tells a story.

The good news is though that he went from down to 11 yellows from 14 the season before!
