Andy Carroll Removed From Liverpool’s Euro Tie

Having originally being named to travel to Liverpool’s Europa League qualifier against FC Gomel, Andy Carroll was missing when the scousers boarded the plane.

While Carroll would not be cup tied if he had featured in the Europa league qualifying round, with Uefa rules stating he can feature in the group phase for a different club, the fact he wasn’t on the flight to Belarus after being originally named in the squad adds to the speculation.

BBC Sport are reporting ‘a slight groin strain’ as being to blame…

With Demba Ba’s widely acknowledged transfer clause of around £7m reported to disappear at midnight last night (31st July), it would appear the chances of the Senegal striker leaving have very much diminished and so just maybe any potential deal for Carroll would involve his addition to the striking strength of both Cisse and Ba, rather than instead of one of them.

Like you I’m just relieved that as it stands the serious focus at the moment is whether or not the likes of Carroll, Douglas and Debuchy are coming in, rather than any of our big hitters going out.

Of course we are still a month away from when true complacency can set in and you can break out the cigars.
