The usual pattern was established with distorted images circulating around the internet with varying degrees of success compared to when we at last got to see the new design.
In a strangely low key launch, the players took to the pitch against Chemnitzer in our first pre-season friendly and the talk afterwards was more to do with the new black & white shirt than a typically low key first run-out of the pre-season.
The belief that it’s impossible to go wrong with black and white stripes was massively disproved in the early nineties when the horrific ‘barcode’ strip was launched, surely a mackem involved somewhere in the ‘design’ process!
While the launch of the burgundy/maroon/red shirt earlier went down relatively well, the new black & white one from Puma has been given an almost universal thumbs up.
Keeping it simple is the key and whilst it always takes a little while for your eyes to become accustomed to any new strip, I think Puma have definitely done the business this time.
