Newcastle fans have responded to our latest poll with a clear message that they want United to go all out to win a trophy, rather than making Cups a second class citizen to the league campaign.

We asked whether fans would rather win a Cup or qualify for the Champions League and only 14%, of the thousands who voted, chose a Champions League campaign over the glory of winning a trophy.

It has become a bit of a tradition that when two or more Newcastle fans are gathered together, the talk will regularly come around to dreaming of winning something before we go on the ultimate away trip.

We might not know certain dates in English history but I bet there aren’t many United fans over a certain age who couldn’t name 1955 and 1969 as the years when Newcastle last won a domestic trophy and latterly, the Fairs Cup.

Alan Pardew is juggling his limited resources for the coming season and has made clear his priorities when speaking to The Journal but what are yours?

“The priority for this club is the Premier League. I’ve said that from day one; that’s where our aspirations are.

The cups are our second priority, all the cups”.

I love supporting Newcastle United and wouldn’t swap it for the world but I have to admit to being a little curious as to what it would feel like to win something.

I just hope I taste a little bit of glory before the inevitable happens.
