Newcastle Bid Goes In For Defender

The latest step on the trail of soon to be Dutch centre-back, Douglas, as a bid of four million Euros is reported  to have been made.

The figure which equates to just over £3m has been reported by Sky Sports to have been made today and with Sky Sports being the club’s seemingly preferred way of releasing news these days, it would appear to be a good source.

Whether FC Twente will deal at that figure is another matter, especially since they played a hard game with De Jong before his eventual departure.

Earlier today our Dutch based contributor, Paul Benneworth, gave a great overview on how he saw the Douglas situation panning out.

Whether this is an informed bid following earlier talks when NUFC’s Derek Llambias and secretary Lee Charnley flew over to meet FC Twente officials, is open to question.

What isn’t open to question for me is whether we need at least one more centre-back into St.James’ Park.

Watching the Monaco friendly last night, with Coloccini and Steven Taylor missing we end up with Simpson and Williamson at centre-back, not what you’d want to see if we have any pretensions of matching or improving last season.

If you need inspiration for a birthday (or any kind of) present why not get them the new DVD, or something equally class from The Mag’s Amazon Store, or why not treat yourself!
