Graham Carr Dips Into The French Youth Market Again

Two goals from a mystery overseas trialist livened up an otherwise routine pre-season match for Newcastle reserves.

Scoring twice from his position on the left, Anthony Koura impressed the watching Willie Donachie (United’s reserves coach) as he revealed afterwards that a deal could be possible if the deal was right for United.

United beat Hamilton Academicals 3-1 but it was the French trialist who was the main topic of interest afterwards.

Nineteen year old Koura is on the books of Le Mans and has two years left on his contract but with his club in financial difficulty he could be available at a price that would tempt Newcastle into adding him to their ever growing development squad.

Koura made his breakthrough at club level last season in Ligue 2 with a handful of mainly substitute appearances but a glance at his international record will give an idea of why United might see him as a player of real potential.

The youngster has played for France at every level from under 16 through to under 19 and has scored an impressive 19 goals in 44 appearances.

If a deal is done then it will be further proof of Newcastle’s attraction to potentially promising French youth players, with undoubtedly a massive pull being the presence of the French connection here already.
