Dutch Claims That Newcastle Abandon De Jong Hunt

Dutch newspaper Tubantia has said that Newcastle have abandoned their chase for Luuk De Jong amidst claims that the player hasn’t been straight with them.

This is how they have covered the today, thanks to our man in Holland, Paul Benneforth, for the information and translation.

Newcastle abandons hunt for De Jong

Newcastle are suspending their efforts to sign Luuk de Jong.  The club offered £11m for the striker, but that was rejected. Newcastle are claiming that De Jong is being disingenuous, having told them that he wants to sign for them, but also having told Borussia Munchengladbach that he wants to sign for them.  Reason enough for Newcastle to abandon their chase.

This would be a really sad end to a transfer saga that was looked promising, though history tells us that it is more than possible this might not be the end to it.

At the end of the day if players have the ability AND want to play for Newcastle United then get them signed, if they lack one or both of those two things then we are well shot.
