I really like Demba Ba, both as a player and how he handles himself as a person. His recent statements have all been positive but he can’t quite seem able to go so far as to say he’ s going nowhere.

He speaks very positively about the fans, the city, playing for Newcastle and so on but hasn’t said those three little words…’I’m going nowhere’.

Speaking to the Chronicle, Demba had this to say;

“What can I say? The fans see me on the pitch in a Newcastle shirt – that’s my message to them. In the papers there’s been a lot of rubbish!

Like I said on Twitter, it’s just rumours. People talk, but what I can say is that none of the teams that have been talked about have approached me. I’m still a Newcastle United player.

Life is brilliant – I always have a smile on my face. That’s how I am. Football is my job, but it’s also a lot of fun for me. If it wasn’t, I wouldn’t do it. I enjoy putting on a black and white shirt”.

Great to hear him knocking the papers and all the speculation/rumours and I totally believe what he is saying but…

What we’d really like to know is what he would be saying IF one of ‘…the teams that have been talked about‘ did make an approach.

If by whatever means (extra cash from Newcastle/clause is timed out (31st July allegedly)/no clubs come in for him etc.) the clause disappears then I don’t believe anybody would offer enough to tempt Ashley to sell.

Until that point is reached though, we’ll be subjected to this daily speculation which we knew before the season ended was all but certain to drag on through the summer

Let’s hope he is still smiling in a black & white shirt at St.James’ Park come September.
