Demba Ba Clears The Air?

10 years ago

It hasn’t surprised anybody to see endless Demba Ba speculation this summer but are we near the end of that particular road?

I must admit to hating jigsaws and this particular one is doing my head in because I’m not sure I’ve got all the pieces, plus I can’t find the box now so I haven’t got a clue what it should even look like!

The story so far…

Demba Ba has a clause in his contract, this is widely reported to be a £7m selling fee if a club appraches and Ba wants to leave.

Further claims are that if a £7m sale did go through, Ba and/or his representatives may be entitled to some of that fee.

It is also reported that the clause is time sensitive and runs out on 31st July.

Demba Ba has been on a pilgrimage in the middle east.

While he was seemingly on this pilgrimage there were claims he’d been to Turkey to talk to Galatasaray.

Demba Ba came back to training this week and on Wednesday tweeted the following message;

“Holla back everybody. So much stuff about me lately. Rumours are rumours! Just forget about it. By the way I had the best holiday ever!!”.

Then he has followed that up with other ‘matey’ tweeted messages for Newcastle fans including ,”Was running on the beach near Cannes on holiday and I run pass this big house with…NUFC flag on top of the house!!!!”.

This followed his, “Senegal to play Ivory Coast for the ANC! One of these teams gonna stay home next January! Who do u want to win? Papiss and Demba or Cheick??”.

(By the way, if you missed it check out the exclusive story we delivered to you courtesy of Alex Ferguson yesterday – Demba Ba and Papiss look all but certain to miss the African Nations!)

What are we to make of it all?

Everything Demba Ba is saying leads you to believe he is playing for nobody but Newcastle United this coming season. The only omission is that Ba himself isn’t using those actual words, yet.

I can forgive him that because the clause in his contract is a bargaining tool for an improved deal and nobody can blame anybody for trying to improve their working pay and conditions. Saying categorically that he wouldn’t consider moving wouldn’t help his bargaining position.

What I would find hard to forgive is if Demba did indeed move on this summer after giving us every indication that he loves it on Tyneside and is staying. He is somebody that myself and many of you have come to love and respect as both a football player and as a person.

We have few enough decent modern day role models in society without losing this one.
