Cabaye In The Frame

Newcastle’s pre-season now moves on to a different opposition in Portuguese side Braga, though the Algarve Stadium venue remains the same.

This three team tournament lurches to its conclusion and a Newcastle win would see them lift the 12th annual Trofeu Internacional de Futebol do Guadiana.

A draw would lead to god know what as the first two matches have ended up as draws despite penalty shoot-outs, whether the referee will let them progress beyond five penalties each will have us on the edge of our seats tonight…possibly.

At least the stadium should have a few more paying customers than the low hundreds who watched United’s opening match. As you’ll have seen from our photo, the stadium also hosts rally car races, not a lot of people know that.
Hatem Ben Arfa will rejoin the squad next week after his successful disciplinary hearing on Friday but despite that, Newcastle should have a stronger look about them tonight.

Cisse and Ba could team up together having sat out the Olympiakos match, save for a twenty minute cameo for Cisse towards the end. In addition, Coloccini, Simpson, Tiote and Marveaux were amongst those who remained on the bench and Alan Pardew is reportedly undecided as to whether to involve Yohan Cabaye or give him more time on the training pitch before involving him in match situations.

Braga could prove decent opposition having finished third in the league and we could be facing Hugo Viana, who proved an expensive flop for Sir Bobby when he arrived as a much vaunted £8.5m teenager.

Another match on the box thanks to ESPN, making it a quite bizarre total of four games televised live already, despite the absence of any real crowd at any of them so far.
