Following Alan Pardew’s comments that he was very confident of bringing in at least one, if not two, signings this week, it looks increasingly likely that the ‘one’ would appear to be Mathieu Debuchy.

Lille have signed a replacement and now through his old mate and seemingly spokesman(!), Yohan Cabaye, Debuchy has made it clear where he is going to go.

Speaking to the Journal our playmaker had this to say;

“Mathieu has made a very difficult to decision to leave Lille but he has made the decision. Now I hope Newcastle push for Mathieu and I want them to do the deal.

I spoke with him two days ago and he told me he wants to come. I hope Derek (Llambias) and Mike Ashley will do the business now”.

Obviously we’d rather all our signings were signed, sealed & delivered the day after the season ended and we could all go off and enjoy our summer but that definitely isn’t the case this season.

Now Lille have their replacement signed, it just remains for the clubs to agree the fee and I have to say that the figures talked about, on both sides, of well under £10m look good to me for what looks a very good attacking full-back, which is all the fashion these days.

When you consider that Manchester United paid £16m for an inexperienced Phil Jones and Liverpool a ridiculous £18m for Glen Johnson, then even at £10m  Debuchy would be a snip for me.

Whatever the price (within reason), just get him through the door!

If you need inspiration for a birthday (or any kind of) present why not get them the new DVD, or something equally class from The Mag’s Amazon Store, or why not treat yourself!
