Alan Pardew – “Good News Is We Haven’t Lost Anybody”
Interesting to hear Alan Pardew talking about the transfer activity in and out, while acknowledging that the club are still to make their first headline summer signing, he pointed out though, “…nobody has left”.
Once upon a time I wanted to believe that every player that pulled on a black & white shirt was a god, I absolutely hated anybody taking a negative (realistic!) view on any player at St.James’ Park. Then I grew up.
Alan Pardew at his first pre-season press conference said;
“We are out there looking at players who will take us forward. We have various options still and nobody has left”.
I can hear some of you saying ‘but what about Peter, Leon, Alan….’.
Like me, I’m sure our manager meant no disrespect to anybody but was simply stating facts, we haven’t lost a single player of any significance, yet.
The likes of Best, Guthrie and Lovenkrands have all played some useful part over the last few years but it was time to move on, while Forster and Smith achieved almost nothing, though Fraser did have the excuse of not being given his chance at Newcastle.
If you needed any real convincing that this summer’s departing players won’t be missed, just look at where they have gone.
Leon Best – Championship, Peter Lovenkrannds – Championship, Fraser Forster – Scotland(!), Danny Guthrie – Premier League relegation favourites, Alan Smith – League One(!!).
Every club in the Premier League is desperately looking for players, especially ones who have experience of playing over here.
If you still have any doubts, ask why they weren’t queuing up at St.James’ Park?
