Newcastle United today confirmed that they travel to Portugal at the end of July to compete in the Guadiana Torneo pre-match tournament.

The three-team tournament will be held between Thursday 26th July and Saturday 28th July at the Algarve Stadium, near Faro, as Alan Pardew whips the team into shape for next season.

Portuguese Liga champions FC Porto and Greek champions Olympiakos will provide the opposition.

The Guadiana Torneo matches are as follows (all kick-off times are local):

Thursday, 26th July – FC Porto v OlympiaKos (8.45pm kick-off)

Friday, 27th July – Newcastle United v OlympiaKos (8.45pm kick-off)

Saturday, 28th July – Newcastle United v FC Porto (8.45pm kick-off)

No doubt plenty of fans will fancy making the trip and combining it with a bit of sunshine before the real action starts in August.

Confirmation of the trip to Portugal comes on the back of reports suggesting that Newcastle’s trip to South Africa has fallen through with the likely cancellation of the Vodacom challenge they were rumoured to be taking part in.

We’ll bring you further news as we get it.
