You must be excited at Newcastle United’s transfer activity so far. What do you mean we’ve only signed a free transfer (Romain Amalfitano)  from the French Second Division, what about this little lot?!!

Kieran Trippier (Burnley), Mathieu Debuchy (Lille), Luuk De Jong (FC Twente), Vernun Anita (Ajax), Ola Toivenen (PSV), Douglas (FC Twente), Toby Alderweireld (Ajax), Vertonghen (Ajax), Kalou (Chelsea), Ferreira (Chelsea), Danny Rose (Spurs), Victor Wanyama (Celtic), John Guidetti (Manchester City), Benjamin Corgnet (Dijon), Sigurdsson (Hoffenheim), Butterfield (Barnsley), Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa (Montpellier), Adam Johnson (Manchester City), Nathanial Clyne (Crystal Palace), Rakish Bingham (Wigan), Emmanuel Mayuka (Young Boys), Kevin Mirallas (Olympiakos), Wilfried Saha (Crystal Palace), Adam Maher (AZ Alkmaar), Jordan Rhodes (Huddersfield), Virgil Van Dijk (Groningen), Erik Pieters (PSV), Curtis Good (Melbourne Heart), Georginio Wijnaldum (PSV), Diame (Wigan), Javi Marquez (Espanyol), Raul (Schalke), Serdar Tasci (Stuttgart), Christophe Lowinsky (Marseille), Barnetta (Bayer Leverkusen), Mulumbu (West Brom), Dame NDoye (FC Copenhagen), Fryers (Manchester United), Afellay (Barcelona),  Sebastian Boenisch (Werder Bremen), Gael Bigirimana (Coventry), Ally Cissokho (Lyon), Junior Hoillet (Blackburn), Mark Davies (Bolton), Das Bost (Heerenveen), Roberto Rosales (FC Twente), Modibo Maiga (Sochaux)

Believe it or not, Newcastle have been linked with every one of these players, often more than once, since the season finished.

I’m sure there are countless others but I was losing the will to live when researching this article (still not convinced that half of these players actually exist!), maybe you can fill in the gaps?

In part we are guilty for bringing this on top of ourselves because we all love a good rumour. However, what gets me is when you get somebody (and most of us will probably know at least one of them) who every time you see them ‘Has it on good authority we will sign xxxxxxxxx’, the good authority turning out to be The Sun, or in modern day money, somewhere on the tinternet.

Don’t worry, only another sixty five days before the transfer window closes…

The Internet has a lot to answer for.  In years gone by you’d be content with whatever nonesense the Chronicle, Journal & Sunday Sun could make up and the very (VERY) rare mention in the Fleet Street press.

Still, the emotions were the same; the excitement, the hope and the growing disappointment.  Scott Sloan ladies & gentlemen???

Brilliant research. Zulu, Durban, South Africa.

if it’s not on NUFC.com, then I pay no attention to it!…that rule has served me well over countless close seasons!

That’s all the press do, come up with names so that if a deal ever goes through, they can say “We told you first!!”.
I believe nothing until it’s a done deal, and also don’t buy “newspapers” anymore….

My taxi driver told me (many moons ago) he had it on good authority that Rob Lee had long ago pulled his children out of school, knowing that it was pointless to send them there when any second soon they (and their father) would be off to somewhere else in the country. I still fret about those kids and the four or five uneducated years that were lost to them.

No disrespect, but if you really want to prove yourself as a worthy Mag contributor you’ll have to learn not rely on conjecture as the thrust of your article.
