Lille have admitted that Mathieu Debuchy wants to leave and they won’t stand in his way, once they have found somebody to replace him.

Lille’s manager Rudi Garcia;

“Mathieu wants to leave but we had no plans for him to leave. He will only leave when I have found someone equally as good to replace him and that will cost a lot of money.

H is one of my main players and he sets the example, a young man who has been brought up well and gives his all for the cause.

It is not my role to put the team in jeopardy. If we find a replacement of the same stature and the right club comes in for Mathieu, then he can leave”.

I don’t think you need to be a genius to work out that this translates to….’when somebody offers the money we want for him’.

Newcastle United have been linked to the player for some time and I think for once this could be a long running saga that has a happy ending for United.

Usually, the longer Newcastle are linked with a player, the less likely you think we will end up signing them.

To be fair it is often little to do with the respective clubs with agents doing the ‘linking’ as they try to flush out other clubs and/or attempt to start a bidding war to bump up their share of any move/new contract.

In this instance though it is well known that Debuchy is best mates with Yohan Cabaye and Alan Pardew when previously interviewed on Radio Newcastle made it patently clear that the Lille right-back was a target.

In the past you always worried when Newcastle’s players went off on international duty, especially with England, as it was commonly accepted that other players would be tapping them up for their own clubs and painting a rosy picture of fame and fortune.

For once this could work in our favour with Cabaye and Debuchy living in each other’s pockets the past month, our midfield playmaker selling Tyneside to his friend and potentially sealing the deal.
