Ex-Newcastle Star On Brink Of Manager’s Job

It’s good to see Newcastle lad Lee Clark seemingly on the brink of getting back into football management.

Birmingham City are expected to confirm his appointment very shortly and so it looks as though both he and Huddersfield Town will make it into the Championship after all, just not together.

Maybe things have worked out right for both parties despite the bizarre sacking of Clark when he’d done such a good job in his spell there, only to be sacked when Huddersfield were bang in the race for promotion.

Clark has been spoken about in terms of possibly being a future manager at St.James’ Park and certainly he had a fine football brain (though I don’t know which part of his brain was in use when he signed for the mackems) when he played in black & white.

I still look back to that so nearly season of 95/96 and while the press wanted to put the Tino Asprilla  signing up as something that harmed our title bid, I think bringing Batty in for Lee Clark was possibly a key factor.

David Batty might have given more protection to the back four but as well as his defensive duties, Clarkie was at the heart of much of the sparkling football Newcastle played that season.

Definitely one of the good guys, we wish him well at Birmingham if he lands the job.

No surprises to see Terry Mac rumoured to be his number two  if Lee Clark is appointed.
