Newcastle Players At Risk Without Champions League
The form of Newcastle’s elite players hasn’t gone unnoticed elsewhere and just as United picked up Ba from West Ham, Titoe from FC Twente and so on, other clubs currently higher up the food chain will be casting an eye at who could improve their team/squad.
A factor we never thought would remotely be on the radar was potentially having Champions League football to offer our current players and those we are trying to attract.
Newcastle might be an outside bet for the Champions League placings but without it to offer players, who would we be in danger of losing?
I think with Steven Taylor’s injury we should ironically be ok, as clubs would be unlikely to bid without seeing him back fit.
Coloccini has been outstanding but with his age and level of wages (and the transfer fee that would be placed on him) I believe it would mean they would think twice, plus even though he has featured in most pundits’ team of the season I still don’t think people (outside Newcastle) realise just how good he is.
Tim Krul has been excellent but with only one full season under his belt I don’t think clubs would bid high enough to tempt Mike Ashley.
Likewise, Yohan Cabaye has made a superb transition to English football but again I think clubs will want to see him repeat it next season.
Cheick Tiote – Unlike Yohan Cabaye he has shown he has got what it takes over a period of two years and I’d be amazed if clubs don’t come in strong, only Mike Ashley’s valuation might save us.
Ba & Cisse – When it comes to players who can score goals the temptation to take a risk is far stronger on only limited evidence. Ba is undoubtedly going to be targeted as even Alan Pardew recently admitted there is some kind of clause, while Cisse’s unbelievable record means interest is guaranteed. The hope must be that Demba Ba believes this team has real potential while with Cisse I think any price tag would make anybody think twice….hopefully.
The ironic thing is that all of these players, apart from Steven Taylor, are the ones who will step out at Goodison Park and potentially give us AND THEM Champions League football.
Whatever happens this summer or in the future I have total belief that they will all give it their best shot, something we couldn’t have said about many players who have gone before.
I couldn’t ask for anything more.
