Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul has spoken in awe of Papiss Cisse following his match-winning brace against Chelsea in midweek.

Krul is backing the January signing to continue his form against Premier League leaders Manchester City on Sunday in the battle for Champions League football.

Cisse scored what has been regarded as goal of the season in injury time at Stamford Bridge with an incredible half-volley from near the sideline, taking his tally to a record equalling 13 goals in 12 games.

Speaking to the Northern Echo Krul said:

If you have a striker like Cisse in your team, you’ll win games. If you can keep a clean sheet, he’ll win you matches.

“I’ve watched his second goal back on TV and it’s incredible, absolutely amazing.

He’s world class and to get him for that price [¬£9m] was amazing. He’s a worthy number nine.”

Krul also spoke of Cisse’s attitude on the training field, and how it is easy to see how that has translated in to his goal-scoring form.

“He gets so upset when he misses a chance in training. Sometimes you’ll see him arguing with himself for five minutes about how he missed it.

That just shows you what fantastic commitment he has. He wants to score all the time – but he doesn’t score goals like that against me!”.
