Demba Ba Hasn’t Lost Shooting Boots, Just Needs To Find Scoring Ones

Newcastle United would be nowhere near possible Champions League qualification if it hadn’t been for Demba Ba’s outrageous goal streak pre-African Cup of Nations.

Almost seamlessly, Papiss Cisse has picked up the baton and continued that run of goals, not just in terms of quantity but quality as well.

It is easy to forget the early part of the season when so much has happened recently but just as Cisse has done, there was hardly a tap-in amongst (number one) Demba’s goals either.

If you were allocating points won by individuals, and even Alan Pardew has suggested Tim Krul has earned double figure points alone this season, then I’m guessing both Dembas will have won a similar number of points, particularly with goals that they have made from next to nothing.

Ba against the likes of Manchester United and Blackburn, Cisse at Stamford Bridge and home to Villa and so on.

It would be easy to think that since Cisse’s arrival it must have meant Demba Ba hasn’t been getting into shooting positions but the good thing is that he has continued to do so.

In the last 13 matches Ba has had 42 shots, a decent number for any striker – now he just needs to rediscover that extra edge he had earlier in the season as well as that bit of luck that has deserted him, such as hitting the woodwork at places like Stamford Bridge.

Would be lovely to think the two strikers could sign off the season by both getting on the scoresheet in a United win, I’d settle for that and worry about what was happening elsewhere later.
