Alan Pardew Stands Back In Amazement
Speaking after yesterday’s match, Alan Pardew predictably was keen to talk about the season overall, rather than the ninety minutes that he and the rest of us had just witnessed.
All my staff, everybody – we’ve had a real good go at it. You look at the quality of teams like Everton and Chelsea (who have finished seventh and sixth respectively) and you say ‘how have we finished fifth’? It is amazing really.
We are very pleased with that and we look forward to next year”.
Everton are a tough nut to crack and have a system that has worked well for them under Moyes, more often than not seeing them positioned as ‘best of the rest’ in recent seasons.
They are under severe financial pressure though and if a buyer can’t be found for the club then the likes of Fellaini may have to be sold.
Assuming Moyes keeps his squad together, if Newcastle finish above Everton again then it would probably suggest United had had a decent season.
How much farther we could go will largely depend on what happens this summer.
