Alan Pardew – Knowledge Is The Power To Beat Chelsea?
“Chelsea is the team I have visited the most as a coach. I did a big study of Mourinho, how he played and how he got that record at home…it was just incredible and I wanted to get my head around that.
I came away with a couple of things but the main thing was you need good players. You need great players that are highly motivated and confident. All that goes hand in hand.
We’re not the only good team that has come unstuck (at Wigan). It happens from time to time and the most important thing is that you react to it. We’re looking for a big reaction and a reaction against a good team”.
I’m guessing that the biggest thing you would get from examining successful teams/clubs from the inside is that you need to believe in yourself.
As Alan Pardew says, the first step you need is to have good players which Newcastle clearly have now.
The other element is that after six straight wins, how will United react to adversity.
Ironically, the only time this season that Newcastle have lost two league matches in a row was against Chelsea and the following match at Norwich.
Though of course it didn’t help that the Chelsea match had wiped out our two available centre-backs.
Those four goals at Wigan will have hurt a defence that had only conceded one goal in six matches, how Coloccini and his back line react to that could be the key to our chances tonight.
