The Three New Players Who Put Finishing Touch To NUFC

From pretty much day one, Newcastle had suggested they weren’t going to be any pushovers this season and indeed from the first proper league tables United have never been out of the top six.

Some of those early results were achieved more through perspiration rather than inspiration but they set the platform for what has unfolded in the rest of this season so far.

Newcastle’s recent defensive record of one goal conceded in six is outstanding and it was a similar tale early on as the week in week out back four of Simpson, Coloccini and the two Taylors posted solid displays match after match.

Obviously we then moved on to seeing the outstanding Demba Ba pluck goals out of the ait from every conceivable angle, hardly a tap-in amongst then.

Throughout the season naturally there have been individual errors from time to time but I can’t think of a single player who hasn’t contributed positively to this excellent team effort.

However, this recent perfect six out of six run has been massively down to three ‘new’ players who may have added the finishing touches to this season’s adventure.

Papiss Cissé of course only signed in January and while he scored goals from day one, in recent matches he has shown just what an outstanding all round player and worker he is….plus he is still scoring the odd goal.

The other two ‘new’ players are Hatem Ben Arfa and Davide Santon.

I would have loved to have seen both players used more often earlier this season but once again Alan Pardew has shown why he is the manager and the likes of me and you aren’t.

In many matches he’s shuffled his squad and selected players with far less natural ability than the Italian full-back and French genius but we are now enjoying thae results of that brave and patient approach.

I think both players have star quality stamped all over them but if they hadn’t been given time to develop their games and find their roles in the team, we wouldn’t be seeing star performances now and the dream of possible top four would have been still just that, a dream!
