The Influence Of Graham Carr At Newcastle United

The resurgence of Newcastle United under Alan Pardew has been a surprise to say the least.

The job the manager has done has been outstanding but the other ‘off the pitch’ figure who has attracted big praise is Chief Scout Graham Carr.

Carr arrived in February 2010 on the departure of Dennis Wise and one big regret must be that Carr wasn’t in position when Wise wasted the money, trust and opportunity that Mike Ashley mistakenly placed in Wise.

In an intriguing interview on TalkSport you can hear Graham Carr give an insight into his role in the player buying process and how he helped bring people such as Yohan Cabaye, Papiss Cissé, Hatem Ben Arfa and Cheick Tiote to St.James’ Park.

The fact that Graham Carr is a Geordie doesn’t do any harm but the big story is that he is a man with clearly a massive information network for identifying players, with a happy knack of picking the best he sees.
